I recently worked on a really cool vintage-inspired photoshoot in the breathtaking Shankill Castle Paulstown. The shoot "Delicate Warmth" was for Styled By Rara -stylist Rachel Doyle, with Colin Price Photography http://www.colinpricephotography.com/carlow-photographer.php , and gorgeous Assets model Ellie.
I thought I'd share an easy step-by-step on how I achieved one of Ellie's makeup looks for this shoot.
This look is a little bit 1940s with the strong red lip and matte complexion, but a little softer around the eyes than the classic 40s strong lines.
Note: Best leave the false tan off for this look!
I do a quick touch-up on location. |
Step 1:
Use a primer all over to smooth the skin surface, then apply a little foundation blending with your fingers or a brush. Dab some concealer around the eye area, top and bottom. Blend well.
Step 2:
Lightly powder, and dust off the excess with your powder brush.
Step 3:
Apply some blush to the cheeks for a healthy colour.
Step 4:
Blend a small amount of nude eyeshadow over the eyelids with a fluffy brush. Blend a slightly darker shade along the socket line, keeping it soft. With a smaller brush blend a little along the lower lash line for a soft under-eye.![]() |

Step 5:
Slowly, bit by bit, draw a line of black liquid eyeliner along the top lash line. Keep tight to the lashes leaving no gaps.
Step 6:
Lots of mascara!!
Step 7:
Line the lips, carefully, with red lip liner, and fill in. Apply your chosen shade of red lipstick (I used Lancome Rouge in Love Shade 170N- a really bright red, on Ellie) with a lip brush for extra precision. And there you have it - a beautiful vintage makeup look, classy and elegant but very simple and easy to achieve.
Permit air-kisses only please!
