So today was the first day of our 4 day workshop on SFX Life-casting, led by David Cullen, aka Evil Chimp FX, based here in Carlow.
Today David demonstrated the life-casting on model Suzanne Moran, and we each then went through the process with our partners.
The end-game is to have a life cast of each of our heads, and we can then create all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures on our own faces whenever we like, or make simple generic molds like vampire foreheads, cheek-bones, etc.
For the workshop we will be creating Zombie-like creatures, monsters, and all sorts of "undead" which we will use in a photo-shoot next Monday, to capture our work... then we can use our creations in the upcoming Zombie Walk for Eigse Festival, in Carlow on October 26th.
My look, which I will create and apply on fellow makeup artist Debbie Mac Donald (Deb FX Makeup) will be based on "Ice Queen", a character from a low budget 2005 straight-to-video horror flop. Debbie and I have worked on several projects for David before so we jumped at the chance to attend this exciting workshop.

So Day 1 involved us each "life-casting" our partners. Lots of fun and mess!
Some pics of the process...more to follow |
Also attending the workshop are a great bunch of artists coming from various creative professions, as well as makeup backgrounds. Attending the workshop are: Debbie Mac Donald, Eamonn Elders, Yvonne Scanlon Bridges, Michelle Hoare, Kelly Brennan, Tee Elliot and Dawn O' Donaghue.
I'll post up lots more photos of everyone's work in the upcoming stages.
Until then...
