Day-time Dressing

Girls for some reason I have slowly stopped wearing casual dresses during the day. On my days off I tend to always choose jeans to wear. The thing is I'm not sure why that is, maybe it's just a habit I have fallen into. Of course if I'm going out for dinner or drinks then I definitely still gravitate to my dresses. The thing is I adore dresses!!! So I've decided to make a conscious effort to re-kindle my love for wearing them. Plus the winter season is the perfect season for getting back into dresses. I adore the cosyness of layering warm tights and boots with a long sleeve dress and of course you always feel that little bit more dressed up even in the most casual of dresses. So today's post is all about my finds online that tick the following boxes;

1. Long sleeves - I don't like being cold and find in the winter a long sleeve gives you that extra bit of warmth and with most casual dresses you can add a layer underneath if needed

2. Versatile - allowing me to dress it up or down depending on the occasion

3. Statement or attractive detailing - when I buy clothes I like an item to have something different or attractive, something that I fall in love with

4. Fun to accessorise - I love my accessories so a dress that I know I can add pops of colour to or style in different ways is key

5. Match my wardrobe - for me the most important thing about a purchase is that it will match with at least 3 items in my wardrobe helping me wear my wardrobe more

First up is an embroidered black dress from Zara. Embroidery is huge and I really like how it's been done on this dress. The colours are stunning offering you lots of choices when it comes to matching boots, jewellery, cardigans or coats. I have a short teal cardigan that would work perfect with this dress and my long cream cardigan would be fab with it also. I have khaki ankle boots that I live in and of course some black ones.

My second find is an animal print dress from Oasis, I'm not always fond of animal prints but I'm really attracted to this one as I feel it's kind of subtle. The skater style is just so easy and comfy to wear and the 3/4 length sleeve is perfect for showing off your favourite watch or a statement bracelet. I love the detail around the neckline and the versatility of layering a white shirt underneath (check out image below). I have burgundy ankle boots and burgundy heels that would be amazing with this dress. Again my fluffy white cardi would be great with this for a more casual look. Oh and this dress comes in a longer version also, I love that about Oasis, they regularly have dresses that come in a short length and a longer length. However I find we can all get away with wearing dresses a little shorter in the winter with the help of high denier tights.

My next find boasts a gorgeous floral print, the colours in this dress are amazing it's got all of this seasons hot hues covered (red, green, mustard, burgundy). I love the sheer sleeve and the v-neck which I don't normally wear but it's not a very low cut one. The dress looks like it would be so comfortable to wear, floaty skirt and loosely tied in at the waist. I have a red blazer which would look fantastic with this dress and then I would keep everything else black. And if I was to dress this up for a dinner date I would definitely team with my red heels and keep accessories simple.

My fourth and final find is a shirt dress from River Island. I've said it before and I'll say it again I love a shirt dress. What caught my eye about this dress is the layered detail on the skirt, it just makes it that little bit different than other shirt dresses. Of course the gorgeous lace shoulder detail combined with the subtle frill is also a winner. I would definitely try wearing this with a pair of burgundy tights and black ankle boots.

Styling Tip
It's a great feeling when you pick up something new and you can't wait to get it home to wear with pieces you already have in your wardrobe. It means you're wearing what you already have more. Most importantly it means that your new purchase isn't going to cost you more money by having to buy something to wear with it.
