5 Ways to Wear Red

Red is a strong colour this season, but then I always find red to be a great summer colour. It works brilliantly with navy's and whites, and is terrific for adding a burst of colour to your favourite neutral pieces. I feel red is a colour that you won't tire of and you'll be content to keep in your wardrobe for years to come, unlike some of the other trending colours at the moment like yellow. Today I have put together my 5 must-have Red Pieces to add to your wardrobe.

No 1. The Statement Coat

I love a statement coat!! If you've been hanging around the house in a simple jeans and top and need to pop out somewhere, throwing on a statement coat instantly makes you look like you've gone to huge effort. I'm not one for saving things for 'good wear'. First I like to get an occasion out of something new and then I like to mix it in with my casual wardrobe, getting lots of wear out of every piece I own and getting value for money.

Styling Tip
When buying into trends, for example the statement sleeve trend (as featured in this Zara Coat), it's a good idea to look ahead to next season and put your money into details that will carry through. No one can afford to get one season out of purchases! The good news with the sleeve trend is that it will continue to be big for autumn/winter 2017, making it a good trend to buy into. So yes you can buy the coat and no you won't feel guilty!

No 2. A New Top

A new top is my next suggestion of how to add red to your wardrobe. A new top instantly gives you a new outfit by teaming it with your favourite jeans. It's good to remember that you can never have too many tops in your wardrobe. We all live in our denims and our upper half is what gets the most attention. A top like the one below is brilliant for a night out and then you can add it to your casual wear. I find the cold shoulder is easier (more comfortable) to wear than the off the shoulder tops that are everywhere at the moment.

No. 3 A Print

Red is too strong a hue for some complexions and it's definitely not a good colour if you suffer from facial redness. Don't let that stop you getting your red on though, instead look to a print with red in it. You can then accentuate the red detail in the print by adding some red accessories to your look.

Styling Tip
V-neck tops are extremely flattering on larger boobs, it has a slimming effect and will also showcase your assets. The peplum is terrific for balancing a strawberry shape (larger on top than bottom half). That said, I do find the peplum works well on most shapes.

No. 4 Accessories - The Bag

Accessories are a brilliant way of adding a fun pop of colour to your neutrals. It's also an inexpensive way of treating your wardrobe to a seasonal update.

I've still only got eyes for crossbody bags at the moment. This red shade is simply stunning (also available in white!) and the ring detail is very trendy this season. The bag is part of Zara's 'Join Life' range and is made from water based PU meaning its kinder to the planet as it's 100% recycled.

No. 5 More Accessories - The Shoes

When talking about red accessories red shoes are a must! I have a simple pair from New Look and I just love them, they get so many compliments. Red is definitely a great colour to have in your shoe collection. Check out these babies which I found on Next (also available in Black). They are just wow. Just imagine teaming with your LBD or your black skinnies
